Try farming Derinkuyu on elite difficulty first. Embersteps is probably the best for leveling and also the most engaging. Otherwise I'd suggest leveling on casual difficulty or even skipping leveling via console after you're finished with the story at around lvl 50. If you are into very grindy gameplay and plan on playing one or more months then go with elite. The mod says it's balanced around elite difficulty but I advise against playing everything on elite.

First of all half of the fun playing this comes from figuring things like mechanics and builds out on your own. If you don’t have a moderately strong computer, you might have no choice but to skip this one.So for anyone still deciding to give into nostalgia and play TL2 with synergies I kinda wanted to make a review on it.
Additionally, this mod may kill a lot of players’ framerate, because you’ll often run into literal hordes of enemies ranging in the dozens, which, unless you have a crazy powerful computer, is going to bring the game to a halt at times. However, this mod may be problematic for some, because it makes the game quite a bit harder, being balanced around the harder difficulties. Of all the mods on this list, this is objectively the most important, because without it you’re missing out on a lot of crazy cool content. In addition to three new classes, the mod adds new towns, new dungeons, and even revamps new game plus, adding new content to the higher tiers of playthroughs, such as unique legendary weapons, new awesome looking armors, and even new bosses.
The Synergies mod might as well be considered an expansion pack for the game, considering it adds a ludicrous amount of original content while also reworking vanilla content. This is probably the most important mod on this list, because it is enormous.
